TestFit Release - 5.16 - Wind Direction & Expanded Building Options

Industrial Updates

Orient Data Centers to Wind Direction

Cooling efficiency is one of the most important drivers in data center planning. With the new wind rose tool, you can quickly understand prevailing wind direction and align your buildings accordingly.

You can draw or click to define your row axis orientation, helping you position generators and cooling yards in ways that reduce heat recirculation and improve performance.

The row axis tool also works for any building types that have internal drives, such as low-density and garden sites.

Expanded Industrial Library Capacity

If you're building out a library of industrial prototypes, you now have more room to define all the variations you need. We’ve increased the industrial library capacity so you can set up a broader range of standardized building options in one place.

Within the industrial building editor, you can now include:

  • 32 warehouse buildings
  • 64 attachments (end bays)
  • 32 spaces

Industrial Database

This gives you the flexibility to capture more versions of your prototypes, different depths, bay counts, attachments, and program layouts. It’s easier to maintain, update, and test your full set of industrial prototypes in a single library.

Explore More Building Options with Randomized Mix

Industrial and data center sites often need far more building combinations than you have time to test manually. When you turn on “Randomize Mix”, TestFit generative design will explore a wider range of variations across your entire building database within the parameters you’ve already set.

Use it to:

  • Run deeper explorations of building mix combinations
  • Lock certain building attributes while varying others
  • Let generative design uncover options you might not have considered

This gives you more control over how TestFit evaluates iterations and helps you find the best optimized option based on your design intent, site requirements or financial goals.

Reports Updates

Auto-Generated Report Templates

You can now generate reports from a blank template or an out-of-the-box 3-page template, making it faster and easier to create client-ready outputs directly from your TestFit model. Reports update live as your design changes, giving you consistent, data-driven visuals without jumping into other manual formatting tools.

In addition to the templates, you can create custom sections and sheets with custom labels to organize your feasibility reports. These improvements let you generate clear, branded reports for internal presentations and stakeholder reviews faster.

Details:

  • Added the ability to specify the base level area of a space in relative terms.
  • Added the ability to limit data center building count based on power limits.
  • Added an optional in-canvas label for data center IT power.
  • Added guideline styling when editing rectangular sites.
  • Added editor handles for custom garden units.
  • Changed the default depths for attachments in warehouses depending on their type.

Reported Issues & Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed spaces inside inline high-density spaces not being solved.
  • Cleaned up warehouse editor controls for levels and heights.
  • Fixed low-density solves sporadically losing massing when making manual changes.
  • Fixed several cases where rows of parcels could fail to place where there was space.
  • Fixed parcels sometimes flexing their width beyond the configured maximum width flex.
  • Fixed drives without child layers being marked as an invalid configuration.
  • Fixed "in warehouse" being available as a volume shape even though it wouldn't solve.
  • Fixed some cases where custom garden building images didn't render correctly.
  • Fixed drive accesses missing from gurban solves.
  • Fixed some cases where parcels wouldn't place around ring road when it was possible.
  • Fixed roads in parcels not using road definitions from database.
  • Fixed Generative Design not generating any options when running all default constraints from any layer other than the site.
  • Improved external circulation solve efficiency slightly.
  • Fixed the critical power filter in Generative Design incorrectly filtering out some options.
  • Fixed dropdown variations in Generative Design being overly constrained.
  • Changed "circulation type" to be a dropdown.

  • Fixed a crash that could occur when loading corrupted preferences.
  • Fixed the manual data center building placement tool not working.
  • Fixed a rare crash that could occur when solving drive layers.
  • Fixed Max Ramp Slope displaying as decimal instead of percentage.
  • Fixed several cases of drive accesses failing to solve and improved behaviour around drive corners.
  • Fixed some cases where parcels would not be placed where they should be.
  • Fixed changing site access road types not working properly.
  • Fixed a rare crash solving gurban sites.
  • When deleting part of a site, the parent layer of the part deleted now becomes the selection.
  • Fixed possible bad solves in high-density.
  • Fixed glitchiness near intersections of small high-density buildings when central cores are enabled.
